Gray Plaid Homecoming Suits and Tuxedos
(1)
Homecoming is usually less formal than prom, so a suit is the safe pick. A tux works if your school makes a big deal of the dance or your whole group is going all in, but for most guys a well-fitted suit in a good color does the job. If you're not sure how dressed up to go, our homecoming style guide covers dress codes, colors and what to skip.
Choosing a color
Black, navy and gray are the easy answers, and you'll get more wear out of them at weddings, interviews and next year's prom. If you want the photos to pop, go bolder. Green, burgundy and light blue are popular picks, and plenty of guys choose a shade that matches their date's dress. Use the color filters above to narrow it down.
Getting the fit right
Fit matters more than price. The jacket shoulders should sit flat, the sleeves should show about half an inch of shirt cuff, and the pants should just touch the tops of your shoes. If you're torn between slim, modern and classic, this guide to suit fits explains the difference. Most of our suits can be tailored in store, so give yourself a week or so before the dance.
Finishing the look
A white or light blue dress shirt goes with almost any suit. Add a tie or bow tie, dress shoes (clean sneakers can work with a slimmer suit at a casual dance) and a pocket square if you want a little extra. Never tied a tie before? Here's how. Shop formal accessories for the rest.
FAQ
Do I need a tux for homecoming?
No. A suit is the norm at most schools. Save the tux for prom unless the invite says black tie.
Should I buy or rent?
If you'll wear it again this year, buying is usually the better value. For one night only, you can rent a suit or tux instead.
