How to Tie a Tie?

Still don’t know how to tie a tie? It’s better late than never. Follow this step-by-step guide to learn how to create the half Windsor, which produces a medium-size knot and works well with most dress shirts and face types.

1. Looking at your reflection in the mirror, drape your tie around your neck (seam-side down) with the wide end hanging about a foot lower than the narrow end.

2. Cross the wide end over the narrow end to make an X shape close to your sternum.

3. Pull the wide end behind the narrow end to the right.

4. Continue to the pull the wide end to the front and then up through the loop towards your body.

5. Pass the wide end from left to right, covering the knot you’ve just created.

6. Pull the wide end back through the loop, from back to front.

7. Bring the wide end straight down through the knot you’ve just created.

8. Tighten carefully and draw up to the collar.
